“True beauty comes from the inside out. We have to work on our mental, emotional, spiritual and physical well-being in order to be truly happy and accept who we are.”
- Carlos Wallace
Hello, Bellas!
If you are reading this, then we want you to know we think you are beautiful – inside and out!
While our blog and brand focus mainly on outer beauty through organic skincare, we want our readers to know that our true passion and wish for you all is to love yourself fully, put yourself first, and focus on your mental and spiritual well-being above all else. Never pour from an empty cup, and remember, outer beauty is truly only skin-deep. Inner beauty will make you shine brighter and radiate further than any serum or cream ever could.
It’s easy to slip away from oneself from time to time and get caught up in the responsibilities of the day-to-day, so please take these words as a gentle reminder to connect with yourself whenever and as often as possible. If that doesn’t come easy, we’ll share some suggestions we find helpful when trying to reconnect with our best selves.
Find time to connect with nature
Connecting with nature pretty much goes hand in hand with connecting with oneself and improving overall wellness (we’re talking mental, physical, and spiritual). From the words of a triple board-certified physician, Zach Bush MD, “trust your macro ecosystem in the natural world – the woods, the mountains, the waterfalls, the jungles, the oceans – to deliver through your breath, touch, and ingestion of diverse micro-ecosystems, a strengthening of your immune system and overall landscape of your health.”
“We are not separate from the natural world around us, and sometimes it takes a concerted effort to remind ourselves of this fact… get out of your drywall boxes and air-conditioned cars and re-engage with nature. Stop trying to swim upstream and let nature take you where she wants you.”
Find nature wherever you are – whether that be a stroll through a city garden, a bike ride in a local park, an oceanside walk, or a hike in the woods. Simply getting outside and spending just 20 minutes in nature has been shown to significantly lower stress hormones like cortisol.
Meditate
In addition to getting outside for a natural reset, try a short meditation session. One of our favorites is this 12-minute guided meditation recording led by Dr. Cynda Hylton Rushton. This meditation is specifically tailored to reconnecting with yourself, your breath, mind, and body.
For a sneak peek, read step one of this guided meditation below.
“1. As you settle into your chair (or wherever you are at this moment), invite your breath to be natural. Notice the inhale and exhale. See if you can detect the sensations associated with breathing. Notice if your breath is uneven or shallow, smooth or something else, to bring your awareness to the feeling of inhaling and exhaling.”
Pamper yourself
Draw a steamy, herbally-infused, bath or relax in a long, hot shower and allow yourself to reset. Hot water helps to relax your muscles, relieve tension and helps you sleep better. Alongside the physical benefits, hot water from a bath or shower can be mentally soothing as it calms the nervous system and helps to release endorphins.
Pro-tip: incorporate a salty scrub in your self-care spa time for added relaxation.
